Reaching the Finish Line

We had our final homestudy yesterday.  What a huge sigh of relief to finally be finished with the homestudy part of getting licensed.  Apparently I was stressing out more than I even realized because at around 2 am Wednesday morning I had an insulin reaction.  Joel says that I was complaining in my sleep about how many foster care classes there were, but I do not normally talk in my sleep.  He rolled over to cuddle me and I was cold and clammy from sweat.  He told me to check my blood and got no response from me.  He took my blood sugar for me and it was dangerously low.  He fought to sit me up (I wanted to drink juice from the cup while lying down) and get me to drink.  It took about an hour before I finally came back to full consciousness.  Severely low blood sugars and the rebounding high blood sugars typically cause me to feel lousy for up to 24 hours afterwards.  When I finally got up on Wednesday I knew that I still had a lot to accomplish before our homestudy but I was not feeling well at all.  At that minute my mom text messaged me and asked if she could come over.  She has been trying to come visit at my house for about two months now and it never quite works out, but I was extremely thankful to receive her text at that moment.  I told her that I had a bad reaction in the night and was not feeling good but needed to get ready for my homestudy, so if she wanted to come spend time with the boys and I could work on cleaning and putting together the dresser that I needed to have done, that would be a great help.  It was such a blessing to have her here.  I normally spend the entire day of the homestudy trying to get everything done up to the minute that the licensor shows up and I know the boys can sense my tension.  This time things were so much better.  While I was cleaning some other rooms my mom whipped out the kitchen and then helped me finish putting together the dresser in the foster bedroom so we could take the kids out to play and for a treat.
The homestudy this time was very painless.  We pretty much just needed to go over different issues that can arise from adopting and make sure that we understood all the issues and what the state is willing to offer us.  She did one last walk through of the house and everything was done that we needed to do.  We did not know this in advance but she told us that she had to get special permission from her administrator because we have our boys sleeping in a set of bunk beds with a bottom trundle.  Thankfully she said that the administrator approved it.  When we got to the foster room, she said that because three beds were able to fit in there so well, we could be licensed for three children.  She recommended not taking three kids at once, because she was afraid that we may get overwhelmed and that our children needed to get used to things first.  I had to bite my tongue to keep from telling her that the boys have been praying for triplets for the last year, so they would be delighted at the idea of adopting three children.
Our background checks came back this week and just need to be processed into the system.  She said that would be completed by Friday.  She will email us a complete set of all the documents by Wednesday of next week that we need to double check and then it will be sent on to her supervisor.  That packet of papers is what a judge will eventually receive to review about our family and make sure that we are a good fit when we actually go to adopt.  She said we will be licensed by the end of next week.  She asked when we would be ready to start taking children and I laughed and said weeks ago.
I can't say that I have loved the process over the last sixty days, feeling like I was under a microscope, but I can certainly say that I already love the children that will be placed with us.  We have been praying for those children for so long now!  We have been dreaming of more children for almost six years.  It feels almost surreal that any time after a week from now, we will have one, two, or even three more kids living with us!!
I know the road ahead will be filled with bumps but today I am thankful for a wonderful family and for being done with the homestudies!
