Patience is a Virtue...

A virtue that I had very little of at the start of this process and that little is quickly disappearing.  I was hoping that I would be able to post last week and let you know that we had been licensed but as of this minute, we are still waiting.  The state has had our fingerprints back from the FBI for the last two weeks and they still have not processed them into the system.  That is all we are waiting on.  I had to laugh at myself the other day because up until a year ago we were planning to do an international adoption.  Most international adoptions can take at least two years to complete.  I've been waiting two months to be licensed and I am very impatient.  I think an international adoption may have been the death of me :)

After a year of living here and driving half an hour to an hour and a half to attend church (depending on whose house it was at each month), we finally decided to look for a church closer to home.  A couple weeks ago we found a church only ten minutes from us that actually has a ministry called Mission 1:27, after James 1:27.  One branch of that ministry is all about foster care.  The church has partnered with a local Christian foster care agency and a group of families from the church has been licensed or is going through the process.  They have monthly meetings with dinner and training, which we would have to do anyway but are really excited that we can be doing that training and fellowship with other Christians who are doing foster care.  The church also takes donations so that when a family is placed with a child they can go to the church and pick up clothes, diapers, furniture and other needs.  So far we have met one family that has a seven month old foster daughter, who they received at five days old, and it has been good to have someone to talk with about the licensing process.  They were told about the baby a week before she was born and were supposed to be placed with her at birth but their license sat on someone's desk while that person was on vacation and the baby was born.  They had to place her with a licensed family until they could get their license.  Joel thought that was such a terrible story to have to miss out on the first five days of "your" baby's life.  It put things into perspective for us.  Waiting a week or two extra is not so bad when you don't have a baby waiting on you.  We are also trying really hard to remember that God is in control and His timing is not always ours (even though sometimes I would REALLY like it to be!).

I'm hoping we will have exciting news for you soon.  Until then, we hope you have a blessed weekend!!
